2021/22 FINAL ROUND  WRAPTOCUMWAL GC (Captains Course)
Another mild day and good playing conditions at Tocumwal GC where we gathered for the first time ever to shut the gate on another Massey season, but alas, the Horse Has Already Bolted. The only question left is by how far? As Jimmy The Griff approaches the final hurdle with an unassailable 13.5 point margin. Mike, is currently in second spot with Murf 0.5 behind him, then Glenn 0.5pt further back and Schimma 3 from Mike in 4th for the battle of the minors.

The Groups were drawn..... MH/RW/MO, GM/JG/MR & AS/IQ/DM/SL. (The leading five in bold letters)

At the half way mark the scores were:

Robbo 19, Glenn 18, Schimma, Gooey & Fussy 17, Mike & Bean 14, Jimmy & Q 12, & Murf 11.
The "live ladder" with 9 holes remaining would see Jimmy's margin slashed to 7 pts over Glenn, another 3.5 to Mike and 1.5 to Schimma. While Murf is going from bad to worse.

Jimmy, in his garish short shorts & shirt, seemingly just enjoying the scenery!

At the completion of the final round the scores were:
Robbo & Gooey 37's (19 out / 18 in & 17/20 respectively), Schimma & Glenn 35 (17/18 & 18/17), Fussy 34 (17/17), Jimmy & Q 32 (12/20 a piece), Mike 25 (14/11), Bean 23 (14/9) & Murf 20 (11/9).

So, we can now crown Jimmy the Griff the new & 6 time Massey Champion breaking a 15 year drought for him. Glenn came in second a massive 11.5 pts adrift, his 10th runner up and 18th podium finish. Then Schimma third 13.5 pts down.

Jimmy now has the distinction of being the only player to win a Massey by playing one game less, and now also the only player to have won the Massey with one round left to play! But was it by a record margin? (He asks knowingly).
Well, it beats the 9.5pt win Murf had over Glenn in 1999/2000 and the 9.5pt win Westy had over Murf in 2009/10. And in 2012/13, Schimma took a 5 point lead to Yarrawonga, then had an 8.5pt lead after round 6 on The Murray course and then extended that lead during the final round on The Lakes to a whopping 14 point win over Westy. Perhaps never to be eclipsed?

The Final Day Aggregate Pairs prize money went to Jimmy & Gooey with a combined 69 points to win by two points over Glenn/Q on 67 others were: RW/MH 60, DM/MR & AS/MO 57's. (perhaps a two day aggregate pairs next year?).

The Nancarrows Cup Final: Murf v Gooey
The Front 9: Gooey jumped the gun on the first after Murf double bogied. Then on the par 3 second, by some miraculous divine intervention (never ask Murf how), Gooey changed clubs on the tee and hit within 2m of the pin to 2 putt for 2up after 2. Murf then wiped 3 & 4 in which Gooey only needed double bogies for two more wins (4 up after 4!). More wins to Goo at 6 & 8 before Murf finally had a win at 9 to turn 5 down.

The Back 9: A very short summary here as Murf commenced the back nine with a double bogie then wiped the next 2. It was all over with the score line of 8 & 7 as Gooey takes out his 2nd Matchplay trophy.

Stabrose Day was played at Black Bull GC in Yarrawonga and the three teams were: Murf/Robbo/Mike, Glenn/Jimmy/Fussy (6 drives ea) & Schimma/Gooey/Q/Bean (exclude 1 player per hole in order, min 3 drives each over 16 - Bean pulled up lame early so went to 6 drives ea). DM/MR/MH scored 94pts easily accounting for RW/SL/IQ/AS on 84 then GM/JG/MO with 79pts.

 2021/22 ROUND SIX WRAPYARRAWONGA LAKES

Once again we were back to where the first ever Massey was won and lost.

Glenn, Murf, Jimmy, Mike & The Bean arrived the day before (Thursday), while Gooey, Fussy, Scmimma, Robbo & Q turned up at the golf course prior to tee off on Friday. Unfortunately, Kenny & Henry were unavailable.

Groups for the round were drawn as follows....
MO/MH/AS, JG/MR/IQ, DM/GM/RW/SL - matchplay SF's.

Jimmy
came into the penultimate round as the Massey leader with a massive 9pt advantage over Glenn, a further 0.5 pt back to Schimma in third, Mike was 4th - 12pts off the lead, Bean & Murf equal 5th just 0.5 from him. The weather was perfect, could history repeat and see Jimmy blow a HUGE lead as has happened many times before (refer preview below!).

At the half way mark scores were: Glenn 21, Gooey 20, Fussy 19, Jimmy (solid!), Schimma, Mike & Murf 18, Robbo 17, Beano 16 & Q 12. Jimmy was looking every bit the goods using a smooth and effortless swing, driving consistently 250m straight down the middle then push the approach iron to the right of the green (pin high), followed by a saving chip then 2 putts for the 2pts, rinse & repeat....

At the end of the round Jimmy The Griff etched his name into Massey folklore by extending his lead with another win with 40 pts (18 out & 22 in). Mike & Murf equal 2nd with 39 pts each (both 18 out & 21 in). In doing so Jimmy now has an unprecedented, unbeatable 13.5pt lead over Mike and 14 over Murf. You can put his name on the trophy right now with one round still to play- never been done before!

Other scores were: Gooey 38 (20/18), Q 37 (12/25), Glenn 35 (21/14), Robbo 35 (17/18), Schimma 34 (18/16), Fussy 31 (19/12) and Bean 27 (16/11).

PERSONAL COURSE BEST S'Fd:  D.Murphy 39 (prev 35), M.Hall 39 (prev 36), S.Lamey 38 (prev37), G.Martin 35 (prev 34).
PERSONAL COURSE WORST S'Fd:  R.Wiseman 34 (=prev), A.Sawyer 27 (= prev).

Nancarrow's Cup Match Play
semi finalists were Schimma v Gooey and Glenn v Murf.

The Front 9: Gooey pounced to 4up thru 6 before Schimma won on 8 & 9 which sees Gooey 2up at the turn. Murf won the 1st and Glenn tied it up at 3, went 2up after 6 and 3up at 8 before Murf won on 9 to see Glenn also turn at 2up.

The Back 9: Gooey wins 10 before Schimma strikes back on 11 & 12 to be just 1 down. A couple of halved holes then Gooey goes bang, bang on 15 & 16 to close it out 3 & 2 and advance to his 3rd Final. Meanwhile, Glenn quickly adds another win on the 10th to go 3 up, Murf hits back on 11,12 & 14 to tie it all up. they halve 15 then Glenn goes back into the lead at 16. Murf strikes back quickly on 17 and it's all square with one to play. The 18th is tensely halved so they trek back up the hill for a sudden death play off on 18. Murph finishes the better in a hotly contested semi after 19 holes to make it into his 2nd Matchplay Final.

Gooey d Schimma 3 & 2
Murf d Glenn after 19.

The Match Play Finalists are Murf v Gooey.

The Final Round (inc Matchplay Final) is to be played at Tocumwal Golf Club on Saturday 19 March at 10.08am.

The Groups were drawn..... MH/RW/MO), GM/JG/MR & DM/SL/AS/IQ.

Will Jimmy the Griff push on to the greatest ever Massey winning margin????

YARRAWONGA LAKES TOCUMWAL GC

The final rounds are at Yarrawonga Lakes Course and Tocumwal Golf Club on Friday 18 Mar @ 12.15pm and Saturday 19 Mar @ 10.08am respectively, playing stableford.

The Stabrose Day will be held at Black Bull Golf Club, Yarrawonga on Sunday 20 March @ 10.00am

Groups for Round 6 (9 players) on Friday will be drawn at the first tee with the matchplay semi finalist's to be paired off.

Groups for the Final Round (9 players) on Saturday inc. Martchplay final pair will be drawn on Friday after round 6.

The playing groups for Sunday Stabrose to be drawn on Saturday arvo.

Jimmy goes into the weekend with the largest lead since 2013/14 when Glenn took a 7 point lead over Gooey into St Andrews Beach & The Dunes, but it was Scoot who won both games coming from 9 points down to win 2.5 pts clear.
Another memorable weekend at Yarrawonga back in 1987/88 was where we witnessed CHICKEN PARMAGATE. Which saw Glenn declare "Daylight Second" as he spruiked that he was "going to do an Ajax!" Unfortunately, it was not recorded what the actual lead was but it soon became evident that someone did indeed "poison Phar Lap" as Jimmy ended up coming from behind that year to win.
The largest ever lead was in 2008/09 when Kenny had a 13 pt ("He cain't be beat!") lead going to Moonah Legends and The Dunes. He still held a 9pt ("If it bleeds you can kill it!") lead going into the final day. As it turned out, Glenn only required a 3rd & 4th place to finish equal with Kenny's score and take The Massey into a sudden death playoff & win.

So - funny things HAVE happened, but this time there are only 9 starters. So Jimmy will get a minimum 8 pts for the weekend. So, surely it ain't gonna happen????

THE ROUND THREE WRAP ROSEBUD CC SOUTH COURSE

Fairly good conditions for golf didn't necessarily make for good scoring with only a very consistent Gooey bettering a par score to win the round with 37pts (19 out / 18 in), as he accurately claimed there was nothing too difficult out there today. For most of the rest of us it was simply poor golf that saw some struggling scores. Mike had a reasonable score of 35 (19/16) in 2nd place, While Schimma & Robbo tied for third with 34's (17/17 & 18/16 respectively).

Other scores were:
Jimmy 33 (16/17), Murph 31 (17/14), Bean 29 (16/13), Fussy 27 (10/17), Q 26 (18/8), Glenn 25 (11/14) & Kenny 22 (9/13)
Absent:- Henry.

THE ROUND ONE WRAP CAPE SCHANCK

Horrendous, horrific, horrible, brutal (ran out of H words!) is not enough to describe the (13deg feels like 4) weather conditions for our first round with a top score of only 32 and an average of 24.8 pts for the field. 80km/hr winds at the top on the tee on the 14th which was only scored on by four players using a driver to reach the 150m par 3!

It was great to see the return of Fussy & Kenny but unfortunately Gooey was unavailable.

Regular players came out on top with Westy managing the 32 pts (18out/14in) and Murph 31 (15/16) the only ones to break 30! Robbo rounded out the podium with 29 pts (14/15).

Other scores were:
Schimma 28 (20/8), Fussy 28 (17/11), Bean 28 (10/18), Q 25 (12/13), Glenn 22 (11/11), Jimmy 20 (12/8), Mike 19 (14/5), & Kenny 11 (5/6 playing right handed).

COURSE WORST:       Stableford - K.Baxter 11 (prev 16 J.Giffiths - 2011/12);
PERSONAL WORST:   Stableford - K.Baxter 11 (prev 15 @ Rosebud CC Nth 2017/18 & Lang Lang 2020/21);

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool B - Fussy d Gooey by F; Jimmy v Glenn AS; Robbo d Mike 3 & 2.

The next round will be at Bay Views Golf Club, Rosebud on Sunday 28 November at 2.00pm. BBQ & Beers in the outside car park after the game - Standby for groups....

2020/21 FINAL ROUND WRAPLAKES ENTRANCE GC
And so, we gathered on a hot & sticky day with a possible afternoon storm forecast for the final day for Massey supremacy with four players within 4.5 pts and another four within 7.5 to 10 pts.

The Groups were drawn..... PW/AS/AC (Tubbsy), DM/MR/MH & GM/RW/JG/IQ. Late scratching - SL. (The leading four in bold letters)

At the half way mark the scores were:

Glenn 21 (parred 5,6,7,8 & 9!), Henry, Mike & Q (solid) 19, Robbo & Murf 17, Jimmy 16, Beano & Tubbsy 14 & Schimma 13.
The "live ladder" with 9 holes remaining would see Q maintaining a 3.5 pt lead over Mike and increasing his lead over Robbo (to 4pts) & Jimmy (to 7.5pts).

The wind really blew up on the back 9 making scoring more difficult ahead of the stormy change. It became a race to the finish, as we could see the storm ominously approaching from the west.

At the completion of the final round the scores were:
Glenn 38 (21 out / 17 in), Henry 37 (19/18), Q 34 (19/15), Robbo 33 (17/16), Murf 31 (17/14), Mike 28 (19/9), Jimmy 26 (16/10), Tubbsy 26 (14/12) , Bean 26 (14/12) & Schimma 26 (13/13).

The new Massey Champion is Q who wins his 4th title and breaks a 15 year drought! Robbo came in second 3 pts adrift then Mike third 6.5 pts down. It was noted that Robbo, Mike & Henry all missed a round this season and still finished within 7pts - (Oh dear, how sad, bad luck, get fucked you tossers!!!!)

The Two Day Aggregate individual prizemoney went to Henry with a combined 71 points to win by one point over Quinny on 70 others were: MR 68, GM 66, DM 63, JG 60, MH 54, AS 52, RW 51, Only one round - SL 34 & AC 26.

The Nancarrows Cup Final:
The Front 9: Q got off to a flying start with 3 Stableford pts on each of the first 3 holes to quickly take a 2 hole advantage. Jimmy then steadied to win 3 holes to 2 to end the front 9 one down.

The Back 9: It was all square when Jimmy immediately struck a win on the 10th. Then Q went bang, bang, bang after a horror stretch of only one point over the next 3 holes from Jimmy. The 14th was halved and at 3 up with 4 to play Q got a bit too comfortable and thought he could just "nurse" it home but Jimmy struck back on the next two after Q double bogies both and was all of a sudden only 1 up with still two to play (farrrk!). Like a stallion in Spring, Jimmy's upper lip started to curl as he said "you have given me a sniff Quinny". Q was then faced with a very nervous tee shot over water on 17 and had been absolutely sweating bullets over every shot. Then, like a good mares tail, lifted when it mattered most and sent the ball right down the middle to win the hole and his first matchplay final 2 and 1.

By doing so becomes the fourth player behind The Bean, Scoot & Gooey to bring home the Massey & Matchplay trophies. (Well only took one home because previous matchplay champ, Robbo forgot to fucking bring it didn't he!)

Stabrose Day was played at Kings Cove in Meetung and the three teams were: Tubbsy/Bean/Robbo, Murf/Glenn/Mike & Schimma/Jimmy/Quinny (min 6 drives each).
In a close one DM/GM/MH scored 93pts to beat RW/JG/IQ by one point on 92 then AC/MR/AS were last with 71pts.

 2020/21 ROUND SIX WRAPBAIRNSDALE  GC

It seems such a long time ago (Oh yeah it was!). Sorry, I have been really, really busy doing nothing. I reckon "why do something today when you can put it off until tomorrow."

Any way, where were we..

Henry, Glenn, Murf, Jimmy, Mike & The Bean arrived in town the day before (Thursday), while Gooey, Scmimma, Robbo & Q turned up at the golf course prior to tee off on Friday. Snoops (Coops' brother) is a local and filled in one spot as Fusspots & Kenny have been unavailable all season.

Groups for the round were drawn as follows.... PW/RW/SL/AS, DM/IQ/GM/JG, MR/MH/Snoops

Mike went into the weekend as our Massey leader with a 2.5pt advantage over Schimma, a further 1.5 pts back to Jimmy in third, Q was 4th - 5pts off the lead, Robbo just 0.5 from him then Murf, Glenn & Henry the only others within 10pts. The weather was perfect and the stage was set.

After playing the back nine first the scores at the half way mark were: Q 21, Snoops 18, Henry, Gooey  & Jimmy 17, Murf & Mike 15, Robbo & Beano 14, Glenn 13, & Schimma 10 (woh oh!).

At the end of the round Q did enough to come out on top with 36 points (21 out / 15 in) to just edge out Robbo & Gooey on 35 (Robbo 14/21 & Gooey 17/18). Other scores were: Henry 34 (17/17), Jimmy 34 (17/17), Snoops 34 (19/15), Murf 32 (15/17), Glenn 28 (13/15), Beano 26 (14/12), Mike 26 (15/11) and Schimma 25 (10/15). So, that has really opened the door right up with only two stableford points separating 1st to 6th placings for vital Massey points.

With just one round to play at Lakes Entrance, Quinny somehow finds himself going in with a 2 point lead over Robbo, with Jimmy 1pt further back in 3rd, Mike now finds himself in 4th 3.5 pts off the lead with Schimma now back in 5th some 7.5pts adrift. Then Henry, Murf & Glenn still within 10pts.

COURSE WORST S'Fd:  R.Wiseman 25 (=prev. J.Griffiths 25 - 2011/12)
PERSONAL WORST S'Fd:  R.Wiseman 25 (=prev. 25)

Nancarrow's Cup Match Play
semi finalists were Jimmy v Glenn and Q v Murf.

The Front 9: Jimmy & Glenn won a hole each through the first 6 then Jimmy had consecutive wins on 16,17 & 18 to turn 3up.
Q won 3 holes to Murf's 2 to be 1up after 7 then managed to match Murf on strokes at 17 & 18 to be a handy 3up after 9.

The Back 9: Between holes 1 & 5 Glenn twice brought it back to 2 down before Jimmy parred 7 (and 8 & 9!) to advance 3 & 2 to his 5th Final.
Meanwhile, Murf quickly broke back on holes 1 and 3 to bring it back to 1 down before Q miraculously holed out from the bunker to par the 4th and steady (a bit). Murf then won on 5 & 7 to bring it to all square before completely fucking up the par 3 8th with a wipe and handing back the lead. Q then did enough to half the last (1up) and move into his 3rd Final.

Jimmy d Glenn 3 & 2
Quinny fucked Murf's shit up (again!) 1up.

The Match Play Finalists are Jimmy v Quinny.

The Final Round (inc Matchplay Final) is to be played at Lakes Entrance on Saturday 13 March at 12.10pm. F'cast: Hot with late storms.

The Groups were drawn..... PW/AS/AC (Tubbsy), DM/MR/MH & GM/RW/JG/IQ. Late scratching - SL.
